Founders Alliance builds events where the participants do the work

Founders Alliance brings together founders of owner-led companies.
Here's how they create gatherings where everyone contributes, and why the structure around their events matters.

Building a company with high ownership responsibility is, as Niclas Carlsson describes it, a solo sport. The decisions are yours, and you live with the consequences of every single one.

That was one of the reasons Founders Alliance was founded in 2001: to bring together entrepreneurs who have already built companies and want to keep growing together. Events are the core of that work.

Niclas Carlsson is the founder and CEO of Founders Alliance.

This is not a conference

A Founders Alliance gathering usually starts with a theme. It might be about scaling internationally, ownership governance, or how to grow an organisation without losing momentum.

But it's not a lecture with an audience.

There's no passive listening in Founders Alliance. You have to work.

When participants walk into the room, they're equals. Everyone is expected to contribute with experience, questions, and perspective. That's also why the target group is so specific: primary founders, first generation, who have built companies with high ownership responsibility and taken them to at least 20 million in revenue.

It's not about gathering many people. It's about gathering the right ones.

Niclas puts it plainly:

The heart of it is the genuine conversation where you dare to bring up something you feel weak about.

That's hard to achieve in large open forums. It works better when everyone in the room shares a similar journey.

The same structure, regardless of location

Most gatherings take place in Sweden and Helsinki, but Founders Alliance also runs international programmes when it creates value for members. Sometimes the group joins a larger event. Sometimes a custom programme is built over several days with company visits, sessions, and dinners.

Regardless of format, the setup is similar: a clear theme, active participation, and time for conversations that go deep.

When the structure around the event matters as much as the content

In exclusive member organisations, the full experience is everything. The invitation, registration, and programme all need to match the quality of the conversations in the room.

Niclas describes the time before Confetti as more manual and more fragmented. He says that the invitations weren't as polished, and the admin around inviting people and communicating the programme was harder.

With Confetti, the invitation, sign-up, and programme all live in one place. That makes it easier to invite members and selected guests, keep things organised, and create a professional feel from the very first touchpoint.

One founders trip was run without Confetti.

"We regret that. With Confetti it would have been much more structured. People register, people show up."

In a member organisation where every person in the room is handpicked, the details matter. It needs to be clear who's invited, what applies, and how to participate.

How new members join

Growth happens by inviting the right people and letting them take part in a workshop or afternoon session. It quickly becomes clear whether the format suits them. Because in Founders Alliance, everything happens in the conversation.
